About Imelda Padilla
Councilmember Imelda Padilla represents Los Angeles’ Sixth Council District, the heart of the San Fernando Valley. A lifelong Valley resident, she has spent over 20 years advocating for working families, expanding educational opportunities, and advancing environmental justice. Before joining the City Council, Padilla helped launch the L.A. County Women and Girls Initiative, mobilized efforts to raise the minimum wage, and led environmental justice programs in the Valley. She previously served as a Field Deputy for the Sixth District and worked in healthcare community relations to expand access to quality care. In 2025, Mayor Karen Bass appointed Padilla to the Metro Board of Directors, making her the first Latina from the East Valley to represent the City of Los Angeles on the board. She is committed to ensuring that one of L.A.’s most transit-dependent regions has a strong voice in shaping its transportation future. Padilla also chairs the Government Operations Committee and serves on several key City Council committees focused on public works, energy & environment, civil rights, and the 2028 Olympics. She earned her bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and a Master’s in Public Administration from Cal State Northridge.
